A vibrant kids scene abounds, allowing all kids to find their place
The close-knit community of St Ives is known for its warmth and friendship. New members of the community are welcomed, embraced and supported through the often challenging task of moving into a new area.
The diversity of our community is also special with all orthodox outlooks and types of Jews represented as well as many members having a Ba'al Teshuvah background. This ensures everyone is comfortable and provided for within the community.

David, Jenna, Zach, Maya & Noa Sandler"After living in Johannesburg and London, we moved to Sydney almost 4 years ago. Having recently got married, we were looking for a place to settle down and start our family and were hoping to find somewhere warm and suburban but more importantly somewhere that offered an established Jewish community.
We were immediately attracted to the North Shore with its great open spaces, beautiful bushland, national parks and beaches as well as the very reasonable commute to the city. We arrived without any immediate family and soon found out that the community here is incredibly warm, welcoming and hospitable, and we have not looked back since. Within a few weeks St Ives became our new home and we were introduced to so many new people, all of whom invited us over for meals and offered help with absolutely anything that would make for an easier transition. Our friends here are genuinely like our family - always together for Shabbat and Yom Tov, celebrating the births of our children, dropping off endless meals when they were born and offering lasting friendships that make us feel like we've been here for many years. We feel incredibly blessed to be part of this unique community in St Ives and we have enjoyed being part of its progression during the time that we have been here. We are very fortunate that we will be able to continue to grow and develop here and we look forward to many more years here bringing up our son Zach and twin daughters Maya and Noa." Brett, Lisa, Ari, Gabi & Reuvan Cohen"We love living in St Ives because we feel that we are in a unique position to contribute to Klal Yisroel while living in a warm and nurturing environment.
There is a strong sense of community that our children are acutely aware of. They know they can rely on our family and friends to support them when it's needed and in turn feel the sense of commitment to those around us to offer support and friendship. We feel this is critical in building community minded kids. The combination of outstanding schooling, various learning opportunities, a growing and focused minyan all harnessed in the wholesome suburban environment make St Ives fertile ground to build a real Makom Torah. We feel honored to be involved from the start and look forward to watching the community grow from strength to strength." Brett bcohen_mail@yahoo.com.au Lisa cohenltc@yahoo.com.au |
Daniel & Carly Brand"We both come from traditional homes and spent our childhood years growing up in St Ives. We independently became observant after high school and having a warm and welcoming community made the transition to frumekit so much easier.
Members of the Ohr Hatzfon community really care for each other. We always had a place to go for Shabbat meals and someone to learn and mentor us. Having recently gotten married, we are now trying to give back as much as possible by helping inspire the high school children by hosting Shabbat meals and facilitating learning programs. We are very proud and fortunate to be apart of such a warm and special community." Daniel brando13@hotmail.com Carly carly.vinokur@gmail.com |
Eliot Levine"The reasons for my emigration to Australia are two-fold.
Although I enjoyed a better than average lifestyle in Johannesburg, South Africa, the crime personally experienced, which was prevalent at the time, prompted my decision as well as the fact that my daughter had emigrated some years before and continually requested I settle in Australia. I think I have adapted well to St Ives and I would recommend the lifestyle in this area to anyone who is looking for a safe, content, communal life in which to bring up a growing family, and even if one is advanced in years, there is plenty to enjoy." Rabbi, Rebbetzin, Eliana & Shai Cohen"We previously worked in Jewish education and outreach in a much smaller community that lacked young families. When the opportunity presented itself to move to St Ives, I was excited at the potential to move to a small but growing community where we could truly make a difference. My children needed peers and a warm community where they could put down roots. St Ives did not disappoint.
We have been welcomed with open arms and my children have made quick friends. I feel privileged to work here in this community where chesed and learning abound and the desire to grow manifests itself in so many ways." Rabbi Cohen rabbibarakcohen@gmail.com Rebbetzin Cohen rachy.cohen@gmail.com |
